Vidarbha’s heart health is under serious threat. A new survey by Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur, reveals that heart disease is striking people much earlier than before — with middle-aged adults (41–60 years) at highest risk and a worrying surge in patients in their 30s.

The Heart Health Insights Survey, conducted across Nagpur and nearby areas, gathered inputs from 48 local doctors as part of a larger study covering 326 doctors across Western India. The findings point to stressful jobs, sedentary lifestyles, abdominal obesity, and poor sleep quality as major triggers of early-onset heart disease.

“Ten years ago, cardiac patients in their 30s were rare. Today, poor lifestyle choices and lack of timely screening bring them in with heart attacks — a real wake-up call,” said Dr. Nitin Tiwari, Senior Cardiologist, Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur.

Alarmingly, the survey shows that preventive culture is missing. Most patients visit doctors only after symptoms appear, often missing the golden hour critical for saving lives. Over two-thirds of doctors reported that patients remain only partially aware of their BP, cholesterol, and sugar levels — a risky gap for heart health.

“Stress, urbanization, diabetes, and poor sleep create a deadly cocktail for early heart disease. Awareness and timely screening are the need of the hour,” added Dr. Amit Ballamwar, Interventional Cardiologist, Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur.

The survey also highlighted that many people in Nagpur fail to recognize early warning signs like chest pain, sweating, and breathlessness, further delaying treatment.
