Heart disease is no longer just an older person’s concern in Saurashtra. A recent Heart Health Insights Survey by Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot, has revealed a sharp rise in heart-related cases among people under 40, while middle-aged adults (41–60 years) remain the most affected.

The month-long survey included inputs from local cardiologists, general physicians, and RMOs, giving a clear view of Rajkot’s cardiac health. Stressful jobs, sedentary lifestyles, poor diet, and delayed diagnosis were identified as the biggest culprits.

“We now see professionals in their 30s and early 40s coming in with heart attacks. This trend is alarming and highlights the urgent need for awareness and preventive screening,” said Dr. Dharmesh Solanki & Dr. Jaydeep Desai, Interventional Cardiologists, Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot.

The survey also revealed that 50% of patients seek medical attention only after symptoms appear, often missing the golden hour crucial for survival. Moreover, 67% of patients are only partially aware of their BP, cholesterol, and sugar levels, delaying timely treatment.

Adding to the challenge, doctors reported that many residents fail to recognize early warning signs of a heart attack — often mistaking symptoms like burning chest pain, acidity, sweating, or breathlessness for minor issues.
