Heart Disease Surge in 30s, Middle-Aged Adults: Survey Finds
Wockhardt Hospitals Survey Reveals Rising Risks Among Middle-Aged and Young Adults
Heart disease is no longer just an older adult’s issue in North Mumbai’s suburbs. A new Heart Health Insights Survey by Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, highlights a disturbing rise in heart-related cases among younger adults under 40, while middle-aged patients (41–60 years) remain the most affected group.
The month-long survey drew insights from 107 doctors across Dahisar, Mira Road, Thane, and Palghar, revealing that stressful jobs, sedentary living, poor diet, smoking, and late diagnosis are driving this surge.
“Even professionals in their 30s are landing in emergency rooms with cardiac complications. It’s a wake-up call for the community to embrace screening and lifestyle changes,” said Dr. Ashish Mishra, Interventional Cardiologist, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.
The findings show that preventive culture remains weak — with 65% of patients seeking medical help only after symptoms appear, often missing the golden hour crucial for saving lives. Alarmingly, 70% of patients are only partially aware of their BP, cholesterol, and sugar levels, and more than half fail to recognize classic heart attack warning signs such as chest pain, sweating, and breathlessness.
“Cardiac care is still largely reactive. We need to make preventive screening a habit before emergencies occur,” added Dr. Mishra.
Calling awareness, speed, and timely access the “three pillars” of survival, Dr. Sushil Kumar, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to partner with communities to reduce preventable cardiac deaths.
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, urges residents across Dahisar, Mira Road, Thane, and Palghar to prioritize regular heart check-ups, healthy lifestyles, and recognition of warning signs to curb the rising threat of heart disease.
