Heart Disease Surge in 30s, Middle-Aged Adults: Survey Finds
Wockhardt Hospitals Survey Reveals Rising Risks Among Middle-Aged and Young Adults

Heart disease is striking younger adults in the city like never before. A month-long Heart Health Insights Survey by Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, has revealed that two-thirds of city doctors report a sharp rise in cardiac cases among people under 40, while middle-aged adults (41–60 years) continue to be the highest-risk group.

“Ten years ago, heart attacks in the 30s were rare. Today, we see professionals in their late 20s and 30s arriving in ERs with stress-driven cardiac emergencies. This is an alarming urban health crisis,” warned Dr Gulshan Rohra, Chief CVTS, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central.

The survey shows that preventive heart screening is still far from routine — only 1 in 3 Mumbaikars gets regular preventive checks. Most people seek help only after symptoms appear, often missing the ‘golden hour’ that can save lives.

“Even educated patients underestimate their cardiac risk. By the time they reach us, the window for quick recovery is lost. Prevention and awareness must be Mumbai’s top health priorities,” said Dr Parin Sangoi, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist.

Further insights reveal that 70% of patients are only partly aware of their BP, cholesterol, and sugar levels, while over half cannot recognize early warning signs of heart attack such as chest pain, sweating, and breathlessness.

“Awareness, speed, and access to care are the three pillars of survival. We at Wockhardt are committed to bridging these gaps through partnerships with doctors, communities, and the media,” said Dr Virendra Chauhan, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central.

Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, urges all Mumbaikars to adopt preventive lifestyle changes, schedule regular cardiac check-ups, and learn to spot early warning signs to protect heart health.
